Meet Our Dental Team
At Restorative and Aesthetic Dental Associates, we treat you as a person first and a patient second.
You'll get to know our reception staff, dental assistants, hygienists, and lab technicians as well as your dentist. We are here to serve you for your best dental health.
Many of our patients say you'd have to go a long way from Portland to find a practice that takes such good care of its patients. We hope to hear you agreeing with them soon!
As you read about each of us, you'll see that we've been together for quite awhile (the average is about 12 years!) We know each other well and enjoy working together. We look forward to getting to know you too.
"There is just this genuine, sincere way they have. Something subtle, like a squeeze of the hand. They are all so skilled at what they do."
– Susan Whitehouse
Our dentists, who have all been voted a "Best Dentist of America" have completed thousands of hours of continuing education courses through renowned institutions, including the Pankey Institute, the Dawson Center, the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Each dentist continues to spend a significant amount of time gaining additional information to care for patients more effectively. All are fellows in the Academy of General Dentistry, and members of the American Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association and the Greater Portland Dental Society.
Meet the Dentists at Restorative and Aesthetic Dental Associates
Scott Burke, DMD, FAGD
"I treat people as if they are members of my family. After finding out their dental health goals, I empower them with good information from which to make good choices. Rather than lead, I'd rather they lead me."
Scott, who wanted to be a dentist since the sixth grade, believes that dentistry is "a beautiful marriage between art and science – a challenge to the mind and the hands." He enjoys how mouths that function well are also aesthetically pleasing. With more than two decades of experience at our dental practice, Scott has developed a style of relational dentistry that helps him connect to his patients personally. It also allows him to communicate with patients regarding their dental health, potential problems and treatment options. Once a patient has explained their health goals, Scott focuses on accomplishing them in a way that is best for the individual, while addressing priorities. "I discuss each treatment option with you so you understand what I recommend and why. Then we move forward with the best treatment plan to achieve your goals," he said. Scott earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine, and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Tufts University. He completed a residency program at the University of Vermont. Scott enjoys actively participating in his church.
Leigh Philbrick, DMD, MAGD
"Our entire staff views patients as people. We're all trying to help people achieve their best health by offering them excellent care, in keeping with their lifestyle. We take the time to listen and be thorough."
Leigh has been a part of our team for more than 20 years. He feels it is important to practice the kind of dentistry that people want, and to give them reasonable options, including the pros and cons of each, without judgment. "Our expertise is knowing what can happen long-term," Leigh explains. "We counsel people on what to expect and provide information to help them make decisions that are best for them." He says this style of dentistry is good for the doctor as well as the patient, as it allows the dentist to do solid work that will last a long time and provides the patient opportunities to express their hopes and needs. Leigh completed his undergraduate degree at Bowdoin College and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a general practice residency. Recently, he was certified in the use of Diode Lasers which can be used for soft tissue and gum procedures. Leigh regularly participates in Donated Dental Services, a humanitarian service to the disabled, elderly, and medically compromised,
and the Free Denture Program, through Community Dental.
Thomas W. Corwin, DDS, FAGD
"Our practice is not just about teeth – it's about putting patients' needs above our own. It's amazing to me how many people have never been offered the time to sit and talk with their dentist. Talking with people outside the dentist chair helps us get a much better sense of what they need."
Tom has worked in private practice for more than 25 years, joining us in 1993. He thinks it's important to visit with patients and get to know them on a personal level, so they know he will be attentive to their needs – and all of the details. "Everyone is different as far as their goals, needs and values, and those change at different stages of our lives," Tom says. "Working on building strong relationships with our patients every day is central to doing the best job we can." Tom earned his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry. He is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Equilibration Society, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. In addition to his participation in Donated Dental Services, a humanitarian service to the disabled, elderly, and medically compromised, Tom also participates in the Free Denture Program, through Community Dental. Our Office Staff
Reneta Cloutier, R.D.H., B.S., Business Manager, Operations
"This is a really friendly practice with a lot of warmth. We want to treat people in a way that meets their needs but also excites them through education, and the importance of their dental health relative to their overall health."
Reneta has been a part of our practice for more than 35 years, working in several different staff positions. The business office and support staff work to know each patient personally, Reneta says, which creates a comfortable environment. "We've gotten to know people so well that the next time they come in, we just pick up where we left off. The staff is interested, sincere and sympathetic to patients' concerns," she said. The office also works to pair patients with same dental hygienist each time, which Reneta says helps with consistency and familiarity. Reneta holds undergraduate degrees in Applied Science (dental hygiene) and Business Management. She lives with her husband, two golden retrievers and four cats. Reneta enjoys restoring and landscaping their antique Greek Revival home, where she and her husband also foster rescue dogs.
Kristine,
"I give patients my full attention when they arrive at our office. I want them to feel at home here."
Kristine attended one year at the University of New Hampshire, then went on to twenty years in the retail book business. She transitioned into dental assisting, and came to join us in the business office in 2001.
Kathy,
"Being a patient at this office is unlike any other experience. It's not about dentists telling you what to do, it's about them consulting with each person and doing the best job to fit every patients' needs.”
Kathy has been with us for ten years. She has served as our financial coordinator and as one of two office administrators and scheduling coordinators. Before joining our practice, she worked in several different industries including real estate, telemarketing, and managing a plasma center.
